The West Virginia Mountaineers picked up their biggest series win of the season this past weekend as they hit the road to Kansas and pulled off a stellar performance that saw them sweep a Top 10 opponent in the Jayhawks.

The win was a major boon to West Virginia's Big 12 title hopes as well as their hopes to host an NCCA Regional in the postseason, and gives them the necessary momentum to make a strong finish to the season. And that was all reflected as they shot up the latest D1Baseball Top 25 poll to a new season high.

West Virginia Mountaineers earn first Top 10 ranking of the season in D1Baseball poll after series at Kansas

The Mountaineers made their Top 10 debut in the poll for the season, appearing at No. 9 overall in this week's poll. With the jump, WVU is now the top-ranked team in the Big 12 Conference as they enter the final week of the regular season. The Jayhawks, meanwhile, dropped from the Top 10 after the trio of losses over the weekend, falling to No. 14 overall in the rankings.

West Virginia will play host to TCU this weekend for the final regular season Big 12 series, with the opportunity to finish the regular season 38-12 if they sweep the Horned Frogs. They're also virtually a lock to secure a Top 4 seed and a first-round bye in the Big 12 Tournament as long as they win at least one game against TCU.

And if they want to finally make that elusive trip to Omaha for the College World Series that has long evaded them, a strong performance to close the season and in the conference tournament will go a long way in setting that up.
