Before this season, the West Virginia Mountaineers had never been to the College World Series. After Friday's game against the Troy Trojans, the Mountaineers can claim that they're (for now) undefeated at the event.

That's because WVU baseball handled their business against the Trojans in Game 1 at the event, walking out of Charles Schwab Field in Omaha with a 7-5 win over Troy. With the victory, the Mountaineers advance in the winner's bracket of their four-team section at the College World Series, and will face the winner of tonight's game between UNC and Ole Miss on Sunday.

West Virginia Mountaineers defeat the Troy Trojans in opening game of College World Series

West Virginia's first appearance at 'The Greatest Show on Dirt' was an eventful one, with multiple standout moments and several Mountaineers stepping up for the moment.

It started with WVU star Armani Guzman making the first straight steal of home plate at the College World Series since 2000, which also helped him set a new single-season program record for stolen bases.

From there, Tyrus Hall drove home two runs on a double in the third inning and two more runs on a single in the eighth inning, the latter of which putting the Mountaineers up 7-5 and eventually proving to be the game-winning run. Sean Smith also bombed the team's first home run in Omaha, and former Division 2 star Ian Korn went six innings on the mound, giving up just two hits and one run.

Now, the Mountaineers will look to keep the momentum rolling forward with their second game in Omaha, which will take place on Sunday.
