Rumors have been swirling for weeks about the potential West Virginia Head Coach Darian DeVries might be looked at by other programs following his impressive run in Morgantown this season.

The Mountaineers missed the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, and in the 24 hours since speculation has been rampant that DeVries is in the running for other gigs and even has ESPN's Fran Fraschilla comparing the state of WVU basketball to the competition.

But in an appearance on West Virginia MetroNews Sportsline on Monday evening, West Virginia Athletic Director Wren Baker probed the subject. While he didn't let too much slip regarding what is currently happening regarding DeVries and potential job opportunities -- perhaps because even he isn't fully aware -- what he did share seems to be an indication that Baker isn't sweating the situation too much.

“I do feel really good about our situation here and Coach (DeVries) knows we’re committed to him and committed to continue to build the program," Baker said on air.

Baker could simply be referring to the overall situation in Morgantown -- he has announced before during the football coaching search that brought native son Rich Rodriguez back to the school that he expects the athletic department to be in a good place in terms of the upcoming revenue sharing that will redefine college sports,

In addition, the school has been building a strong relationship with it's NIL organizations, and those in charge of bringing that money in seem to have been working hard to set WVU sports up well throughout the past couple years.

And of course, Baker has ties to another coach from DeVries former program at Drake (Ben McCollum) who took college basketball by storm this year, and also dropped during the football search that he always has a list of suitable replacements to call ready-to-go at any given time. So it's possible that with or without Darian DeVries at the school, Baker is confident and what can be done and is ready to make moves happen.

However, given the rumors circulating all day and the tense atmosphere surrounding the program, Baker could have also been reassuring fans that he believes DeVries will be sticking around long-term in Morgantown.

In any case, Baker seems content with his current situation, and we'll have to take his word on it -- how the exact details play out remains to be seen.
