Recently, Will Grier announced that he was retiring from the NFL after spending seven years playing professional football. But he's quickly decided on what is coming next in his professional career – and he'll cetainly be a natural fit in his new role.
According to ESPN NFL reporter Todd Archer, Grier will be transitioning into life as an NFL coach, and will join the Dallas Cowboys as an offensive assistant. Archer also reports that after Grier parted ways with the Cowboys as a player at the end of the 2025 season, he contemplated an offer to join the franchise as a coach before signing with the Panthers after the NFL Draft. He then retired on July 15.

Grier joined the league with the Carolina Panthers in 2019, and would start two games for the franchise during his rookie year – both of which ended in losses. After his first season in the league, however, he struggled to find a role in the league again, and never played another regular season down in the NFL. He would spend the rest of his career drifting between different teams.
In many ways, the opportunity to join an NFL coaching staff presents a perfect opportunity. He has certainly learned plenty about quarterbacking over his years in the league, despite his lack of playing time. And with no real future as a starter in the league despite seven years in the league, it makes sense to jump start his coaching career as early as he can if he wants to remain around the sport.
