Since the West Virginia Mountaineers found out that they were not going to be in the NCAA Tournament, the news around the snubbing has gone viral in the world of college basketball. The governor of West Virginia, Patrick Morrisey, announced he would take legal action against the NCAA, it has come out that Selection Committee Chairperson Bubba Cunningham, also the AD at UNC, a team that did make it in, gets a big bonus for the Tar Heels making the tournament, and media analysts everyone are question the choices of the selection committee.
The biggest news out of all of this is that West Virginia is taking legal action against the NCAA, similar to the way Florida State took action against the NCAA for being snubbed out of the College Football Playoff almost two years ago.
Governor Morrisey certainly didn't mince words when talking about what the NCAA selection committee did to West Virginia.
"This was a miscarriage of justice and robbery at the highest levels," Morrisey said at his press conference on Monday.
This investigation may not bring about anything for West Virginia, but let's play a fun game here and talk about what could happen if something did come out of the investigation. What if the investigation reveals that UNC AD and the Chairperson of the selection committee Bubba Cunningham corrupted the committee to the point of getting his own team in the tournament over the Mountaineers? What would happen then?
Of course, West Virginia would probably call for Cunningham to step down or be fired, but at that point, the tournament would be over and done. At this point, West Virginia is out, and nothing can be done about it.
Both fans and those in the college football world are angry and confused about the fact that UNC made it in over West Virginia, but also just at the sheer fact that West Virginia did not make the tournament at all. Up until the bracket was revealed last night, the Mountaineers were a lock for the tournament, but suddenly, when the bracket reveal was over, everyone was stunned that West Virginia did not make it in and UNC did. Some even thought it was a typo.
It is all said and done now, but West Virginia is not going to go down without a fight in this one. As more information is released about the investigation and more news comes to light, check back for updates.
