West Virginia women's basketball drops in AP Poll following Texas loss
By Joseph Smith
West Virginia women's basketball's dropped an extremely close game against Texas on Sunday in the Gulf Coast Showcase Championship -- and despite winning all their other games by a 20+ points this season, the Mountaineers have been punished a bit in the latest AP Top 25 Poll for the defeat.
The Mountaineers, who went 2-1 last week, dropped from No. 12 to No. 15 in the rankings -- they sit behind a two-loss Notre Dame team who was previously No. 3 and a one-loss Oklahoma who also fell to a Top 15 opponent.
The Longhorns advanced a spot in the new poll, meanwhile, moving from No. 5 to No. 4 after their Top 15 win over WVU.
WVU is the third-highest ranked Big 12 member in the poll this week -- they were surpassed a surging 8-0 TCU that jumped from No. 17 to No. 9, and also still trail behind Kansas State, who fell four spots to No. 13.
The Mountaineers will next be back in action on Friday, December 6th, when they host east Tennessee State at the WVU Coliseum in Morgantown. Tip-off is slated for 10:30 AM EST.
