West Virginia football is set to open their season today, and we now know who will start for the Mountaineers when they take the field in just over an hour.
The depth charthas been revealedfor the Mountaineers and the Chanticleers just ahead of kickoff, with things pretty much resembling what was released earlier this week. Michael Hawkins Jr. is listed first at quarterback: there is an “OR” after his name, but all reports have indicated he will be the first quarterback to play for the Mountaineers. Cam Cook will begin his campaign to defend his FBS rushing yards crown from 2025 as he makes his West Virginia debut, and will earn the start in the backfield. Blocking for him up front include returning offensive line starter Nick Krahe and 4-star true freshman Kevin Brown in his collegiate debut. 4-star prospect Amari Latimer is second string at running back, and is expected to see action as well.
Ben Cutter is the sole returning defensive starter for the Mountaineers, and defensive linemen Nate Gabriel and Corey McIntyre Jr. return from reserve roles last season to start on the interior of the defensive line. 4-star freshman Matt Sieg is second string at free safety and is expected to see action on both defense and special teams.
The atmosphere in Morgantown is electric as the Mountaineers return to action for the first time in nine months. And now, with kickoff rapidly approaching, we now know who we can expect to see on the field.
