An in-state native has snubbed the option to play for West Virginia men's basketball for the second time in his collegiate career and will join a former WVU rival dating back to their shared time in the Big East.

Poca, West Virginia native Isaac McKneely has officially chosen a new school to play basketball for after entering the Transfer Portal. McKneely spent three seasons at Virginia before deciding to seek greener pastures.

The Poca, West Virginia, native committed to Louisville last Thursday, according to On3Sports. McKneely has a career average of 11.1 points per game, 2.6 rebounds per game, and 1.7 assists per game. McKneely is a well-established sharpshooter, especially from three-point range, where he is shooting 42% in his collegiate career. He also has a career 42% field goal percentage from the floor.

While nothing was official, UNC and Tennessee were also rumored to be heavily involved in the sweepstakes for the three-point sniper. McKneely was intrigued with the first-year head coach of the Cardinals, Pat Kelsey. Kelsey was named the ACC Coach of the Year in his first season with Louisville.

WVU did not stand much of a chance for top portal prospect

Even though WVU fans wished that Ross Hodge could give the transfer a pitch to play at home, the new coach did not have much chance to get the ultra-talented shooter. McKneely entered the portal with a “Do Not Contact” tag, which prevented Hodge from reaching out to McKneely. The Mountaineers were never an option, despite being the flagship program in McKneely's home state.
