West Virginia is still just on the verge of cracking the AP Top 25 in this week’s edition of their men’s basketball poll.
WVU once again fell into the “receiving votes” category and earned 30 votes overall, which was 34th amongst 46 teams receiving votes from voters.
The Mountaineers (9-2) do have a win over a current Top 25 opponent, pulling off an upset against No. 19 Gonzaga (9-4) in the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament in November. The Bulldogs were ranked No. 3 at the time.
The only other team WVU has played that is currently ranked or receiving votes in the poll is Pittsburgh, who received 35 votes but did not crack the Top 25 -- and the Mountaineers lost decisively to the Panthers in The Backyard Brawl.
WVU will open Big 12 play on New Year’s Eve with a road trip to No. 7 Kansas, with tip-off scheduled for 2 PM EST.
