Ross Hodge and his staff at West Virginia are not wasting any time getting a roster together for the 2025-26 college basketball season. After landing several commitments over the last couple of weeks, they have yet again found success in getting a commitment from a player, which has garnered plenty of attention in the portal.
On Sunday evening, the North Dakota transfer Treysen Eaglestaff made a commitment to join Ross Hodge and the Mountaineers.

The Bismarck, North Dakota native is listed as a 6’6, 190-pound guard. Eaglestaff has made significant leaps in his collegiate career through three seasons at North Dakota. His play in the 2024-25 season led to his being one of the top scorers available in the NCAA transfer portal. With the Fighting Hawks this past season, Eaglestaff averaged 18.9 points per game. Eaglestaff’s shotmaking ability led to his being named an All-Summit League performer. Through 33 games, Eaglestaff attempted over seven three-point shots per game, knocking down 36% of them.
Notable Performances led to National Attention
Eaglestaff brings a consistent scoring punch anytime he is on the floor. He failed to reach double-figures in scoring just three times this past season. However, two performances stand out above the rest as Eaglestaff quickly became a household name for college basketball junkies.
Eaglestaff vs. #6 Alabama
In a rare home game against a power conference opponent, The Hawks hosted an elite Alabama Crimson Tide team that made it to the Elite Eight. The Tide won in a game where North Dakota hung tight and was close to upset territory, and much of that was due to Treysen Eagelstaff. He scored 40 points in mid-December. In the 97-90 loss for North Dakota, Eaglestaff knocked down eight of his 18 attempts from beyond the arc and proved to be a problem for Alabama all night.
vs South Dakota State
In the Summit League Tournament, it was Eaglestaff that was again turning heads. Eaglestaff was aggressive from the jump en route to a 51-point performance that led to an 85-69 upset win for the Fighting Hawks.
He went 15-of-28 from the field and once again was 8-of-18 from behind the arc -- he also knocked down 13 shots at the charity stripe and found time to chip in four assists and four rebounds as well.
For at least one night in March, Treysen Eaglestaff’s performance was the story getting the most attention in college basketball.
What this means for the Mountaineers
Without getting too complicated, a commitment from a player of this caliber is significant. When you think about what Ross Hodge and his staff have been able to do through the transfer portal in such little time, Mountaineer fans should be very excited and optimistic. Like Honor Huff who committed to WVU, Treysen Eagelstaff drew interest from plenty ofmajor conference programs. Drawing interest from the likes of Kentucky, Kansas, Michigan, and Gonzaga, this is undoubtedly a massive get for Ross Hodge and company who continue to fill out their roster for Year 1 in Morgantown.
Eaglestaff now joins the growing list of transfer portal commitments including Honor Huff, Jasper Floyd, Brenen Lorient, Chance Moore, Jackson Fields, and Harlan Obioha.
