West Virginia football has one of it's biggest home games in years this weekend

The West Virginia Mountaineers are 3-0 afterearning an upset winover a ranked Virginia team as double-digit underdogs in Week 3. Now, they'll return home to face the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a game that will serve as the Big 12 opener for both teams.

Neither team enters ranked at the moment, but you wouldn't know it when hearing fans talk about the game. The Mountaineers have their win over Virginia, and the Cowboys knocked off a Top 10 opponent in the Oregon Ducks in Week 2.

And it's certainly beginning to look like it could be a showdown between a pair of dark horse contenders for the conference crown. Which means that what seemed like it could be a relatively innocuous game at the start of the season now might be the biggest home game for the Mountaineers in years.

Tony Caridi reveals massive crowd is expected for West Virginia/Oklahoma State clash

On Monday's edition of The Rich Rodriguez Show, legendary voice of the Mountaineers Tony Caridi revealed that a conversation with Wren Baker has left him expecting a large turnout at Milan Puskar Stadium on Saturday.

"We're looking at capacity or near-capacity on Saturday," Caridi said.

And before the Mountaineers even won against Virginia on Saturday, the game was assigned a 7 P.M. EST start time – which means the fans will have all day to tailgate in the Blue Lot (where Rich Rodriguez guaranteesthere will be lots of red solo cups) and get raucous before kickoff. There's a reason night games were so feared at Milan Puskar Stadium during his first tenure with the program.

The game will carry a "Gold Rush" theme, so fans are encouraged to wear gold. And the school will also be handing out LED glow sticks to the fans in attendance, ensuring that the atmosphere will be electric once the crowd fills up and the sun sets over Morgantown.

This could be the game that earns West Virginia a 4-0 start and finally gets them ranked in the AP Top 25 for the first time since the 2018 season – and if that happens, the Mountaineers will have already matched their win total from the previous year.

And coming off the heels of West Virginia fans packing Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte to help create an incredible home-away-from-home atmoshere that Rich Rodriguez acknowledged playing a role in the win over Virginia, it's paramount that the Mountaineers fans trn out in droves to help cheer their team onto one of the hottest starts for the program in years.
