West Virginia football enters final week of players being able to enter transfer portal

West Virginia football is inching closer to the close of the transfer portal window -- but the portal will remain open for WVU players a bit longer than many other schools.

The portal window this winter stretches from December 9th-December 28th, but any player inside a program that has experienced a coaching change gets an immediate 30-day window to enter the transfer portal. Since the Mountaineers fired Neal Brown on December 1st, that gives all WVU players 30 days following that date to enter their names -- which translates to a deadline at 11:59 P.M. on December 31st.

So far, the Mountaineers have lost 20 players to the portal, while having added 5 new players so far. It is important to remember that once in the portal, players can take as long as necessary to choose their new program, and there will also be a spring portal window and further extended windows for teams whose post-season ends after December 28th. So WVU will still have time to add new players to make up for their losses.

13 of those 20 Mountaineers who have entered the portal still have not announced new destinations, either, which leaves open the possibility that a few may still be exploring options and might return to Morgantown once the dust settles.
