West Virginia football further solidified their secondary on Wednesday as they added a trio of transfer portal commitments.
The action started with a commitment from veteran defensive back Jordan Walker. Walker joins the Mountaineers after spending his career at the FCS level with Chattanooga and will have one year of eligibility remaining.
Walker will play his sixth season of collegiate ball this fall -- he joined the program at Chattanooga in 2020. His first season forfeited no eligibility due to the COVID pandemic, and his second season saw him play four games but ultimately redshirt. He finished his 2024 campaign with 60 tackles and 7 pass breakups in 12 games -- the previous season, he earned All-Southern Conference honors, tallying 73 tackles, 4 pass breakups, and 3 interceptions in 13 games.
He will be joined by defensive backs Fred Perry and Derek Carter from Jacksonville State, who will each have one year of eligibility remaining as well.
Perry was an All-Conference USA selection this past season as he racked up 110 tackles (10 TFL), 3 sacks, 2 pass breakups, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery on the year. He's played his past three seasons with the Gamecocks and has tallied a career total of 257 tackles (18 TFL), 10 pass breakups, 6 forced fumbles, and 2 interceptions.
Meanwhile, Carter managed 32 tackles, 2 pass breakups, and 1 interception in 2024 for Jacksonville State -- he's seen playing time during 3-of-4 seasons with the Gamecocks and has amassed a career total of 89 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and 1 interception. Together, they anchored a pass defense in 2024 that allowed just 218 yards per game compared to the 270 yards per game allowed by WVU.
The trio are the 13th, 14th, and 15th transfer portal commitments of the off-season -- check in with out transfer portal tracker to monitor who is in so far and who ends up coming next.
