West Virginia fans deliver on hype with electric atmosphere for Oklahoma State game

It can be easy to forget after six seasons in the Neal Brown era and last year's slow start to Rich Rodriguez's second tenure, but Milan Puskar Stadium has built a reputation in the past as a place to be feared. The type of stadium that you would dread coming to play in as an opponent. But that reputation has waned in recent years.

On Saturday night, the Mountaineers welcomed Oklahoma State into Milan Puskar Stadium for whatfelt like the program's biggest home game in years. Legendary West Virginia announcer Tony Caridi stated early in the week that a near-capacity crowd was expected, and he wasn't lying – only a few stray upper deck seats were empty, and the crowd brought the exact energy need from the jump.

The fans started piling into the stadium as soon as the gates opened, and by the time oepning kickoff was approaching, the stands in Morgantown were made of a sea of gold as the stunt section was already getting raucous, and the fans serenaded each other with a "Let's Go, Mountaineers" chant.

And once the game started, things were just as loud. It didn't take long for the obnoxiously loud crowd to make an impact, with the Cowboys drawing a false start penalty on their second drive. And once Michael Hawkins Jr. bounced into the endzone for his first touchdown of the night, the metaphorical roof came off the stadium.

And the environment was amplified by the LED glow sticks handed out to all the fans in attendance, as it made for quite the show once the sun fully set and the stadium's gold-and-blue lights were put to good use.

West Virginia is at ititss best when Milan Puskar Stadium is a dangerous place to play, and fans provided what was the best environment in ages outside of the 2025 Backyard Brawl. And for fans of the program, it has to feel good to see Morgantown become a tough place to play once again.
