WVU is in the middle of a tough season, and it does not look like it will lighten up any at all following a Big 12 upset.
Saturday, Colorado pulled off an upset win at home over 22nd-ranked Iowa State by a final score of 24-17. That was Colorado’s first Power 4 win on the season, with their only other wins being Delaware State and Wyoming. The Buffalo moved to 3-4 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.
The Mountaineers will host Colorado on November 8 in Morgantown. Colorado was believed by many as an “easy” win – a chance for WVU to take advantage of a team that is also among the bottom-ranked teams in the league. That is no longer the case, as Colorado now has something that WVU does not have to this point in the 2025 season, a conference win. Not only did Colorado pull off an upset win over Iowa State on Saturday, but they held their own against BYU in a 24-21 loss at home.
Colorado starting quarterback Kaidon Salter might be finding his groove at the quarterback position for Colorado. In the upset win on Saturday, the senior quarterback – who played four seasons at Liberty before landing with Colorado – finished the game going 16-of-25 (64% completion percentage) with 255 passing yards and two touchdowns. Salter also picked up an additional 57 yards on the ground on nine carries. Salter has three games with 200 passing yards so far this season (Wyoming, TCU, and Iowa State).
Salter led Colorado to their upset win over Iowa State, and Iowa State is no slouch of a team itself either. The former 22nd-ranked team has key wins over Kansas State, Iowa, and Arizona.
Going forward, WVU cannot count on an easy win against Colorado. Many Mountaineer fans felt that Colorado was WVU’s best chance to win a conference game this season, and that just became much more difficult with their upset win over Iowa State.
