A former WVU baseball player has landed on the injured list for the St. Louis Cardinals. The former WVU outfielder sprained his ankle while trying to rob a home run from New York Yankee Aaron Judge.
During the Cardinals’ 12-8 loss to the New York Yankees, defensive star Victor Scott II sprained his ankle and was placed on the 10-day IL the following day. Scott II tried to rob Judge of the home run and was just short, but the home run robbery attempt cost Scott II a trip to the 10-day IL.
LHP Anthony Veneziano has been recalled from Memphis (AAA).

RHP Roddery Muñoz has been optioned to Memphis.
OF Victor Scott II has been placed on the 10-day IL (left ankle sprain).
Scott II was posting a .223/.311/.312 slash line with a .623 OPS. Adding to his slash line, Victor Scott II added five home runs and 35 RBIs along with 31 stolen bases. Scott II brings a gold-glove caliber defense and an elite speed to the Cardinals’ lineup that they will miss while he is on the shelf.
While on the injured list, Scott II will look to come back ready to contribute again
Unfortunately for Cardinals fans, this season has been a rollercoaster. At one point, it seemed like the Cardinals were going to be in the thick of the NL Wild Card hunt for the playoffs. Now, on August 20, the Cardinals are 16.5 games back from the NL Central-leading Brewers for the division and are five games back of the New York Mets for the third wild card spot. Ahead of the Cardinals are their division rivals, the Cincinnati Reds, who are only one game back of the Mets for the final wild card spot.
Without Scott II, the Cardinals will be in more of a pickle trying to get a position for the final spot. Although Scott II does usually hit in the ninth spot of the order, his value in the field and his ability to swipe a bag once he gets on base are a big loss for the Cardinals in their late push for a playoff spot. Scott II has the third-highest outs above average in all of MLB with 16 OAA and has a sprint speed in the 100th percentile at 30 feet per second.
The Cardinals are going to be anxiously awaiting the return of Scott II from his injury list stint. He is a vital part of their plan for making a late push to grab that third and final spot in the NL Wild Card. Cardinal fans will be frantically awaiting his return to the lineup and, most importantly, the field.
