The WVU women's basketball team will write their own unique place in program history this weekend as they host the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 34 years, but senior guard Sydney Shaw has the opportunity to claim her own individual spot in the record books.
As the No. 4 seed Mountaineers enter their opening round game this Saturday against No. 13 seed Miami (OH), Shaw has made 87 three-pointers on the year, which ranks fifth in West Virginia history for the most made three-point shots in a single season.
And Shaw just needs to convert seven three-pointers in the NCAA Tournament to tie Takisha Granberry for first with 94 made triples in a season – and eight more would allow her to overtake Granberry for the top spot in the record books.
When it’s up, it’s good.

Shaw just needs to knok down two three-pointer in the tournament to move into fourth-place on the list, which would surpass Meg Bulger with 88 single-season triples. LaQuita Owens is in third-place with 91, and Kate Bulger in second-place with 92.
Shaw is in her second season with the Mountaineers after transferring in from Auburn, and is having the best season of her career – currently averaging 12.1 points per game while shooting at 42.5% from the field and 41.6 percent from three-point range while also recording 4.6 rebounds and 2.3 assists per contest. She is surprisingly just fourth on the team in scoring, demonstrating the team's depth.
The Mountaineers will tip-off at 5:00 PM EST on Saturday against the RedHawks, with the broadcast set for ESPNU.
