Sydney Shaw earns 3-Point Championship invite after shattering WVU program record

The senior West Virginia guard has staked her claim as one of the elite three-point shooters in the nation.

WVU women's basketball saw quite the historic season come to an end with a loss to the Kentucky Wildcats in the NCAA Tournament, but one player from the team will get one more shot to wow crowds on a national stage .

Starting guard Sydney Shaw, who spent the past two seasons with the Mountaineers after transferring in from Auburn, was a crucial part of the West Virginia lineup this past season, and she was so efficient for the team in large part because of her deadly three-point shooting – now, she'll be headed to Indianapolis to participate in the State Farm College Women's 3-Point Championship during the events surrounding Final Four weekend.

Shaw was as good as any player has ever been from behind-the-arc for West Virginia this season. She shattered the program's single-season three-point record this year with 95 made three-pointers, surpassing former record holder Takisha Granberry, who had sat atop the list since 2009.

She was particularly deadly in the postseason. In the Big 12 Tournament, where she went 9-of-22 from three-point range to help lead the Mountaineers to their first conference tournament championship since 2017, including a Big 12 Tournament record of five-made three-pointers in the quarterfinals and three in the tournament championship win.

Then in the NCAA Tournament, she knocked down two three-pointers against Miami (OH) in the opening round, before going 6-of-11 from behind-the-arc against Kentucky in the second round loss, scoring 23 points as one of the team;'s leading scorers.

Shaw will compete in the event on Friday, April 3 at 7 PM EST at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, with the event set to air on Sunday, April 5 at 1:30 PM EST on ESPN.
