When West Virginia ace pitcher Maxx Yehl left the game early on Saturday against Kentucky in the NCAA Regional, looking far from his usual self, the outlook seemed bad. The Mountaineers would go on to drop that game and find themselves in a tough spot if they want to make it out of Morgantown and advance to the Super Regional round, and after the loss, it was confirmed by WVU head coach Steve Sabins that Yehl was injured.
But less than 24 hours later, West Virginia responded by defeating Wake Forest in an elimination game to keep their season alive and earn another shot at the Wildcats. And while the Mountaineers are still facing a tall task to keep their season moving forward, Sabins had a positive update on Yehl that could change things significantly for WVU.
"I wouldn't be shocked if we can get this thing to Monday, that guy could potentially be in that game," Sabins said after the win over Wake Forest.
WVU Steve Sabins said ace Maxx Yehl could pitch on Monday. He said he's had muscle spasms in his shoulder.

But for that to mean something, the Mountaineers must get to Monday, and that is not guaranteed. West Virginia will face off against Kentucky at 5 P.M. EST on Sunday, their second game of the day – and if they lose, they will see their season come to a disappointing end.
But if the Mountaineers win, the Morgantown Region will be determined on Monday in a rubber match between Kentucky and WVU – and if that comes to pass and the Mountaineers are ale to put a healthy Yehl back on the mound for the contest, they could pull of the unthinkable and win three straight elimination games to advance to the Super Regional.
