Seven West Virginia baseball players recently found themselves named to D1Baseball's Positional Top 100 list. Mountaineer pitchers, infielders, and outfielders found themselves on the list.

The list of Mountaineer pitchers includes Chase Meyer (#11 ranked relief pitcher), Jack Kartsonas (#53 ranked relief pitcher), Griffin Kirn (#88 ranked starting pitcher), and Reese Bassinger (#91 ranked relief pitcher).

The three position players to make the list were: Logan Sauve (#12 ranked catcher), Sam White (#30 ranked second baseman), and Skylar King (#47 ranked outfielder).

The D1Baseball position rankings that were released on March 28 had many of the above-mentioned players on the list as well -- Meyer, Bassinger, Sauve, and King were all included in both position rankings.

Three out of four of the WVU players who made the list moved upwards in the rankings -- only Bassinger slipped lower in the latest rankings. New Mountaineers to the latest list were Kartsonas, Kirn, and White.

With the emergence of Kartsonas in the rotation, WVU baseball fans are not surprised to see his name on the list in the update. He has been fantastic for the Mountaineers this season, and arguably most notably since joining the weekend starting rotation. Kartsonas is 6-1 with a 1.84 ERA with four starts on the season.

Kirn has been the Friday night starter since the beginning of the season and has not looked back, picking up a Big 12 Co-Pitcher of the Week award. The Division 2 transfer has a 3.49 ERA over a team-leading 69.2 innings pitched (4-1 with 13 starts).

Even with an injury that kept him out of the lineup for weeks. White has done more than enough to show why he deserved to be in D1Baseball’s Top 100 rankings. White is leading the team with a .364 batting average with 36 RBIs (second on the team), and nine stolen bases (also leading the team).

Amidst a historic season that has a good chance to see 40 wins posted, there have been several Mountaineers who have played their part in this success for WVU. With postseason play quickly approaching, the Mountaineers, these seven guys are the reason they have had the success they have had so far, and will be a big reason for any potential success in the postseason.
