According to Mike Casazza of 247Sports subsidiary EerSports, incoming West Virginia Head Coach Rich Rodriguez will retain offensive coordinator and running backs coach Chad Scott from former coach Neal Brown’s staff. This is contradictory to earlier reports that strength coach Mike Joseph and tight ends coach Blaine Stewart would be the only two staffers retained.
Scott held the offensive coordinator title from 2023-2024 under Brown, but was not the play caller for the Mountaineers, with Brown retaining those responsibilities. Scott had his first opportunity to call plays in the Frisco Bowl loss to Memphis last week.
Scott was the primary coach of a running back room that was consistently one of the most talented position groups at WVU -- over the past two seasons with Jahiem White and CJ Donaldson Jr. leading a two-headed rushing attack, the Mountaineers had a Top 10 rushing offense amongst power conference programs and averaged 210 rushing yard per game.
The news comes one day after Donaldson, one of Scott’s most notable and closest proteges who had entered the transfer portal following the bowl loss, announced he was committing to Ohio State.
