The West Virginia Mountaineers opened the season with a win in Week 1 against Coastal Carolina, but many fans felt like the victorywas a bit too close for comfort. And it seems like Rich Rodriguez might have felt the same way.
After the Mountaineers pulled out a seven-point victory over the Chanticleers, Rodriguez did his traditional postgame press conference, but fans who watched may noticed it ran a bit short, and that Rodriguez let it slip that he'd be having a meeting with the coaching staff once he has done. That piqued some people's interest, and Rodriguez expounded upon that on Monday's edition of The Rich Rodriguez Show.

Rodriguez was asked about the coaches meeting on Monday, and he noted that it was one of the first times that he'd ever done so. So what caused a head coaching veteran with multiple decades of experience to change things up like that on the fly?
"I just wanted to do it while I was still pissed off,"Rodriguez revealed.
Rich Rod says he believes that was the first time he called a staff meeting right after the game. Says a lot of the stuff was "really avoidable." Losing contain, penalties, overall discipline were the main things discussed.

Clearly, something about what Rodriguez saw during the second half – whichhe said "stunk"following the game – left him upset enough to want to immediately talk to the coaches, and he cited overall discipline as a main issue. That might not be the best sign.
But he also seemed far from apoplectic both immediately after the game and on Monday, and he noted a lot of it came down to wanting to point out an issue and fix it right away – and the issue was heavy on his mind.
"We just got a few things going and watched the film that night while it was fresh in our minds," Rodriguez said. "Our coahces are pretty conscientious too, they know what we did wrong."
Now, the Mountaineers will move onto Week 2, which will feature clash against FCS opponent UT-Martin on Saturday, September 7 at Milan Puskar Stadium. And hopefully no problems are fresh enough on Rich's mind following that game to call for another immediate coaches meeting.
