The West Virginia Mountaineers landed a lot of top freshman talent in their most recent recruiting class. One piece of that puzzle that didn't join the party until quite late in the process was Amari Latimer.
The Mountaineers flipped Latimer from Wisconsin on Early National Signing Day, with him joining four-star safety Matt Sieg as one of two players that surprised the college football world with a shocking commitment to the Mountaineers. And now, just nine months later, it seems that Latimer will make an immediate impact for the program as a freshman.

Rich Rodriguez is hesitant to talk too much about any given player during the preseason, but he has not been shy about mentioning Latimer's name. He has already indicated thatLatimer will see significant playing timethis season. And on Monday's edition of The Rich Rodriguez Show, he gushed even further when the topic of Latimer came up.
"He's not a freshman body-wise,"Rodriguez said. "He's a big, physical guy. He's still learning, so we try to temper the expectations, but he is going to have a great career here."

Latimer has beengaining some national attentionas of late, appearing on the Shaun Alexander National Freshman of the Year Award watch list. And hearing Rich Rodriguez's praise for the rising freshman makes it pretty clear why expectations seem to be so high for Latimer. Watch for him to play a big role durng the season opener this Saturday against Coastal Carolina.
