Another West Virginia football freshman draws national attention ahead of 2026 season

The West Virginia Mountaineers went all in on their freshmen class this past recruiting cycle, signing well over 40 players. And while not all of them made it to campus, most are now on the roster: and it's becoming clear that several of those talents will make a significant impact this season.

The namesthat have been tossed around the mostare the two highest-rated prospects in the class – safety Matt Sieg and offensive lineman Kevin Brown, who have both garnered some national attention ahead of the regular season. But now, another member of the current freshman class is doing so as well.

Amari Latimer named to Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Year Watch List

Latimer was a late flip in the recruiting class. He was initially set to head to Wisconsin, but the four-star running back joined the Mountaineers on Early National Signing Day and immediately became one of their top commitments in the class. Now, he has been named to the Shaun Alexander Freshman Player of the Year Award Watch List.

With three four-star freshmen set to likely see significant playing time and make an impact, fans can expect the underclassmen to make some noise for the Mountaineers this fall, as well as help lay the foundation for a bright future for the program in the coming years. And these three are not the only ones who have been talked about by the coaching staff.

During the preseason, we've also heard the names Landon Drumm, Vincent Smith, Kade Bush, Yendor Mack, Aidan Woods, and LaMarcus Dillard bandied about by different coaches and players. While it's unlikely all make a significant impact this season, it's clear that Rodriguez hasstacked his roster was some high-caliber talentfor the years to come.
