Rich Rodriguez delivers emphatic statement on stunning Noel Devine arrest

After the thrill of celebrating a victory that moved the team to 2-0 on Saturday, West Virginia fans were shocked to hear the news that assistant coach Noel Devinewas arrested on Sunday. Now, there is update on the situation from head coach Rich Rodriguez.

Rich Rodriguez offered a written statement on Sunday night updating everyone on the developing situation, including what Devine's current status with the team is following the arrest.

"Upon receiving information of the arrest, I have immediately and indefinitely put Noel Devine on leave from the Mountaineer football coaching staff,"said Rodriguez. "Any future decision on his status will be determined after more information becomes available."

Noel Devine faces strangulation charges after weekend arrest

Devine was booked in the West Virginia North Central Regional Jail this weekend, after being arrested on a charge of strangulation. There has currently been no further details released regarding Devine's arrest.

Devine, who joined his former coach's staff at West Virginia ahead of the 2025 season, currently serves as the assistant running backs coach for the Mountaineers. His son, Andre Devine, also plays on the team as a running back, where he's in his third collegiate season.

Devine played for West Virginia from 2007-2010, playing for both Rodriguez and Bill Stewart. During his stint with the Mountaineers as a player, he was the program's career all-purpose yardage leader, and finished third in program history in rushing yards. He was later inducted into the WVU Sports Hall of Fame in 2021.
