Rich Rodriguez turned quite a few heads this past offseason as he landed one of the better recruiting classes in college football, and the best since the program joined the Big 12 – and it included a haul of four 4-star prospects. Now, Rodriguez has secured yet another elite 4-star to anchor what is already a stellar start the 2027 class, continuing his streak of landing impact 4-star talents.

On Monday, 4-star Carter Bonner, a wide receiver from St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Md., announced his commitment to the Mountaineers on Monday. He chose West Virginia over offers from Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Oregon State, and Maryland.

"They made it easy for me to commit to West Virginia," he told Rivals.

Bonner is listed as an athlete by 247Sports, who has him ranked as the 18th-best athlete and seventh-best player in Maryland in his class, and a safety by Rivals, who ranks him as the 32nd-best safety and ninth-best player in Maryland in his class.

He opened up after his commitment to 247Sports about why he made the decision to choose the Mountaineers over several other Power 4 programs.

"What I love about WVU is the program, in general," he said. "They are building something special and I'm ready to be a part of it. I love the way coach Rodriguez pushes his players, and he calls them out most importantly. The hard coaching means a lot because that's how I've been coached my whole life."

"More importantly, I'm excited about the specific plans the coaches have for my development and how they envision putting me into their defensive schemes."
