WVU football signs best recruiting class in Big 12 era: where does it land nationally?

After a disappointing season under the first year of Rich Rodriguez's second tenure, the Early Signing Period has provided optimism for the Mountaineers.

With 47 letters of intent signed and delivered, WVU football is walking away from the Early Signing Period in December with a 2026 recruiting class among the program’s best in its history.

The Mountaineers are mostly done bringing home their stunningly large class of high school and JUCO prospects for 2026, and it’s hard to argue the results are anything but a potential gamechanger for the program. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, WVU has signed the 25th-best recruiting class this offseason. That’s the program’s second-best class dating back to 2000 (the earliest such rankings can be tracked), only topped by a 2009 class that saw the Mountaineers land Geno Smith, Tavon Austin, and Stedman Bailey. It also marks the highest-ranked class signed by WV since joining the Big 12 in 2012.

“It's kind of fun to look at as a fan, I think it kind of depends on who's rating them...but I don't get paid to be in the Top 25 in recruiting rankings, I get paid to be in the Top 25 at the end of the season,” head coach Rich Rodriguez said.

The class was highlighted by signing four total blue-chip recruits, including a trio of 4-star prospects that flipped from Big Ten schools. The top two ranked recruits in the class, safety Matt Sieg and offensive tackle Kevin Brown, are among the Top 150 players nationally according to the 247Sports Composite. Sieg and 4-star former Wisconsin commit Amari Latimer announced their flips as early signing day surprises.
