There's a West Virginia football coaching reunion brewing in Denton, Texas.
Former WVU head coach Neal Brown, who led the season for six seasons from 2019-2024 before being let go by the school, is returning to a head coaching role next season as he inherits the reins of the program at North Texas in a move that was announced earlier this month.
Now, Brown is attempting to put together his first staff to help him coach the Mean Green, and he's dipping into a pool of familiar faces to WVU football fans as he has already tapped two former assistant coaches from his time with the Mountaineers to rejoin him at North Texas.
On Thursday, the news broke that Jevaughn Codlin would be headed to North Texas to fill the role as safeties coach on Brown's new staff. Codlin was the assistant secondary coach for Brown at West Virginia from 2023-2024 and was often frequently mentioned by potential prospects as a top recruiter for the Mountaineers. Codlin served as a defensive analyst and assistant defensive line coach this past season for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
This follows former WVU football assistant Tyler Allen joining the staff for North texas last week. Allen served several different roles for Brown at WVU from 2022-2024, including spening the 2024 season as quarterbacks coach for the Mountaineers. he also was as assistant on the staff at Texas this past season alongside Brown, and previously coached under Brown at Troy during Brown's stint as a head coach with the Trojans.
