Another former West Virginia football staffer from the Neal Brown era has found his new home.
This time it is rising college football coaching star Jevaughn Codlin, who most recently spent a two-year stint on Brown’s staff as an Assistant Secondary Coach from 2023-2024. Codlin will be joining the staff at the 2025 College Football Playoff National Championship runner-up program Notre Dame as an analyst, according to Chris Hummer of 247 Sports and CBS Sports.
Codlin helped play a pivotal role in developing defensive standout Beanie Bishop during the cornerback’s sole season with the Mountaineers. Bishop was named a Consensus All-American during his stint in Morgantown, recording 67 tackles, 20 pass breakups, and four interceptions during the 2023 campaign -- he also tried his hand at punt return during the team’s 2023 Duke’s Mayo Bowl win, and housed a return for a massive touchdown.
Bishop signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the NFL as an undrafted free agent and has since earned a spot on the main roster and excelled in his time of the field in Pittsburgh -- he picked off legendary NFL quarterback Aaron Rodgers twice in one game in October 2024, and finished his rookie season appearing in all 17 games and recording 45 tackles, seven pass breakups, four interceptions, and one fumble recovery.
Codlin also developed a reputation behind-the-scenes with the WVU football program as an elite recruiter, helping land numerous recruits to Morgantown. West Virginia on SI, a Mountaineer-focused Sports Illustrated affiliate, cites Codlin as a name on staff that was “often mentioned” in conversations with WVU recruits.
The gig with Notre Dame will be Codlin’s third collegiate coaching opportunity -- before WVU, he began his career at Division 2 Emporia State.
