It's been quite the active day for draft eligible player from last season's WVU football team.
While no Mountaineers that played for the program last season found themselves draft during the 2026 NFL Draft, which took place this past weekend, franchises were looking to fill their offseason rosters with numerous undrafted free agent signings and rookie mini-camp invites.
Earlier on Sunday, linebacker Reid Carrico and cornerback Michael Coats Jr. landed opportunities with the Cleveland Browns. Later in the day, three more Mountaineers landed their opportunity to get a shot at the NFL as well.
Eddie Vesterinen, Jeff Weimer, and Chase Wilson earn NFL mini-camp invites
On the offensive side of the ball, wide receiver Jeff Weimer earned an invitation to the Kansas City Chiefs' rookie mini-camp. He played with West Virginia for one season, finishing with 383 receiving yards and two touchdowns. If he makes the roster, he could earn the opportunity to be a target for one of the top quarterbacks in the league in Patrick Mahomes.

On defense, defensive lineman Eddie Vesterinen and linebacker Chase Wilson both earned mini-camp invites, with Vesterinen headed to the Minnesota Vikings and Wilson headed to the New York Jets.
Vesterinen spent all five seasons of his career with the Mountaineers, returning from a season-ending injury in 2024 to record 30 tackles and two sacks last season, becoming an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection.
Wilson played just one season with the Mountaineers. He capped his career in Morgantown by tallying 46 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, and two pass deflections for West Virginia. If he lands on the final 53-man roster with the Jets, he'll play with another former WVU star in quarterback Geno Smith.
