The West Virginia Mountaineers expect that they have a future star in Miles Sadler.

When WVU basketball head coach Ross Hodge landed a commitment from the five-star guard last fall, he immediately became the highest-rated prospect ever to put ink to paper to play for the Mountaineers. And that was before he had the chance to dazzle the basketball world with his senior season of prep ball.

Sadler was the juice that made one of the top prep teams in the country go last year in Bella Vista Prep. Sadler led Bella Vista to an incredible season, which saw them capture the Nike EYBL Scholastic League championship and the Chipotle Nationals championship. And in the process, he racked up a number of accolades that places him in rarified air.

Miles Sadler joins impressive 5-player list after stunning senior high school season

Sadler was certainly recognized for his outstanding season, as he was named a First-Team All-American by MaxPreps, and also was awarded with the Nationals MVP award. In doing so, he became just one of five prep players in history to achieve the combination of accolades. The other four? Kyrie Irving, Ben Simmons, RJ Barrett, and Cooper Flagg.

It would be an understatement to say that Sadler is in the company of some special players on that list. Irving, Simmons, and Flagg all went on to become the No. 1 overall pick in the NBA Draft in different years. Barrett, meanwhile, was the third overall pick in the 2019 edition of the draft. Irving, Simmons, and Barrett have all had successful NBA careers since, Flagg was the Rookie of the Year last season.

Sadler has already been projected as a first round draft pick in 2027, signaling that he very likely could be a one-and-done for the Mountaineers. But if he lives up to the success of the other players who have earned these same accolades, it's possible that just considering him a first round draft selection might be selling him short – and if that's the case, he could completely change things for the Mountaineers this season.
