West Virginia football is undefeated after three games, and a large part of why they were able to do lies in starting quarterback Mike Hawkins Jr. – who had one of the best performances of Week 3 in the team's win over Virginia.
The Mountaineers defeated the Cavaliers 38-27 in a marquee non-conference match-up, and Hawkins Jr.was responsible for all five West Virginia touchdownsin the win. He finished the game 10-for-17 passing for 190 yards and two touchdowns through the air, while also adding 123 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns on the ground.

On Tuesday, the Walter Camp National Players of the Week were announced for Week 3 of the season, and Hawkins Jr.was named the National Offensive Player of the Week.

Hawkins Jr. was the highest-graded FBS quarterback in Week 3 according to Pro Football Focus (PFF), and is also the highest-graded quarterback on the season according to PFF.
And with two passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns in a single-game, he accomplished a feat not seen by a West Virginia quarterback since Pat White in 2008. He was also just the third quarterback in program history to achieve that milestone.
"Mike's a dynamic player, and I think he's only going to get better. It's only his third game in the system,"Rodriguez said about Hawkins Jr.on Saturday after the game. "He's electric, and I think he showed today he has a whole lot of good football in front of him."
