Miami (OH)'s coach puts WVU on upset notice with bold NCAA Tournament prediction

Could the RedHawks cause chaos in Morgantown and upset the Mountaineers? Their head coach certainly thinks so.

On Saturday, the No. 4 seed West Virginia Mountaineers will host the No. 13 seed Miami (OH) RedHawks in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament.

The Mountaineers enter as heavy favorites in the contest, and the fact that they earned homecourt advantage in the tournament's opening rounds should play a factor – the Mountaineers have lost just five home games in three years under head coach Mark Kellogg. But Miami (OH)'s head coach, Glenn Box, isn't counting his team out just yet, and he is expecting to shock the world this weekend.

"I'm not worried at all," Box said earlier in the week. "I think we’re going to win. I know my team, and I know that they’re not punks. They’re not going to cower from the moment.”

Box also said omn Friday that his team is also not super worried about the crowd noise at Hope Coliseum despite a sellout crowd, and that he actually welcomes a hostile environment in Morgantown.

“Matter of fact, we welcome the 10,000 people here. I want the whole state of West Virginia here,
Box said.

Miami (OH) enters with plenty of momentum, having won 24 of their last 27 contests. However, they are vulnerable, and lost their last regular season contest Ohio. Kellogg believes that the RedHawks might have their best offense yet under Box's leadership, but the Mountaineers stated on Friday they were expecting a defensive, low-scoring game.

But if the Mountaineers need to score, they have no problem doing so – they eclipsed the 100-point mark several time this season, including during a historic 118-60 win against Cincinnati to close the regular season.

WVU enters on a six-game winning streak and having won 10 of their last 11, with the only loss coming to NCAA Tournament No. 3 seed TCU – who the Mountaineers would then knock off in the Big 12 Tournament.
