WVU football fans got some much-awaited news about the future of one of their top stars on Tuesday night – and they'll love the update.
Redshirt sophomore Cam Vaughn, who was a Jacksonville State transfer who followed current head coach Rich Rodriguez to the Mountaineers and became a centerpiece of the team's offense this past season, announced on a live video on Instagram yesterday that he intends on returning to the program next season. Responding to a fan asking "can you please stay with us," Vaughn gave a response that assured fans of his commitment to West Virginia.
"What do you mean, I am staying," he said. "Mountaineer for life."

Vaughn was the team's top weapon at wide receiver this year, leading the Mountaineers in both receiving yards (540) and receiving touchdowns (4). Those already promising stats likely would have looked better had the offense been able to move to he ball more consistently this past season, but equipped with one of the worst offensive lines in the Big 12 and struggling with multiple injuries at the quarterback position that resulted in four different signal callers starting, the Mountaineers failed to get much going offensively in 2025.
Now, with Scotty Fox Jr. returning after starting six games for West Virginia at quarterback this year and one of the top 2026 offensive tackle prospects in the country set to enroll in January, Vaughn will be set to return to an offense that can hopefully get the ball in his hands more effectively. As a freshman at Jacksonville State, he hauled in 803 receiving yard and five touchdowns, and is likely capable of a standout season next year with the right pieces around him.
