The WNBA preseason is getting underway, and this season, multiple former WVU women's basketball stars find themselves on rosters to begin the season. But one of those players will not be ready to go as her team kicks off action on Thursday night.

Former WVU guard J.J. Quinerly was drafted in the third round of the 2025 WNBA Draft by the Dallas Wings, and was having a stellar rookie season before it was brought to a premature end due to a knee injury. Quinerly underwent surgery on her knee last fall, but don't expect to see her on the floor quite yet.

Quinerly is listed as 'out' for the Wings' first preseason contest against the Indiana Fever, due to a left knee issue. That's the same issue where she sprained her ACL and damaged her meniscus to precipitate surgery last year.

When Quinerly does return, she will be a big addition to the franchise, who are embarking on their first season under new head coach Jose Fernandez, who took the role after a successful stint leading the USF Bulls. Last season Quinerly made 34 appearances and 13 starts before her injury, averaging 6.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.9 points per game in just over 15 minutes per contest.

Quinerly's former WVU teammate, Jordan Harrison, made her WNBA debut on Wednesday for the expansion Portland Fire, registering over 20 minutes of playing time and tallying five points, three assists, and two rebounds in her first taste of professional basketball.
