Former West Virginia star JJ Quinerly is offically set for regular season action in the WNBA.
After hearing her name called at the WNBA Draft in April, Quinerly has officially found herself on the final 12-woman roster for the Dallas Wings as the organization prepares for the WNBA's Opening Night on Friday.
It's quite an impressive achievement for Quinerly -- there are only 156 roster spots in the WNBA, less than half of what is available for men's basketball players looking to advance to the NBA. She also made the rare transition from third-round selection to opening night roster, which only one other rookie achieved this season.
It seems even more improbable of a journey when looking at Quinerly's career -- she began her collegiate career as an unranked prospect by major recruiting services and played for three coaches across four seasons for the Mountaineers, yet still managed to develop into an exceptional talent.

✨Unranked in ESPN’s 2021 recruiting class
✨Committed to West Virginia, where she played under three different head coaches across four seasons
✨Became just the seventh player in program history to be drafted into the WNBA — and the first in four… pic.twitter.com/FNP2zD2k0X
Quinerly is one of four rookies to find themselves on the opening night roster for the Wings -- this includes Paige Bueckers, the sensational scoring guard from UConn who wowed women's basketball fans and found herself selected as the first overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft. Quinerly actually outshined Bueckers, as well as the veterans on her roster, as shed led the Wings with 16 points in her preseason debut earlier this month.
The Wings will host the Minnesota Lynx on Friday to open their regular season -- action is scheduled to tip-off at 7:30 PM EST from the College Park Center in Arlington, Texas.
