The Dallas Wings are not having an incredible season by any means, but Wings’ rookie JJ Quinerly has already made a little bit of history in the WNBA – now, she’s pushing to do so once again.

Earlier this season, the former WVU women’s basketball star became the first third-round WNBA Draft selection since 1999 to score 15 or more points in three consecutive games as a rookie. She did so in impressive fashion, as she pulled off the achievement amidst a streak of six double-digit scoring performances.

But Quinerly now has the opportunity to make history across an entire season, as she is sitting in position to become just the tenth WNBA third-round selection to average five or more points per game as a rookie across the course of the year. With just under two months remaining in the regular season, Quinerly is ahead of pace to hit that mark, averaging 6.7 points per game in 26 appearances and 11 starts for the Wings. She’s also averaging 2.3 assists and 1.9 rebounds while playing 15.3 minutes per game.

Quinerly managed to tally five points, two assists, and two rebounds in her latest outing as the Wings fell to the Atlanta Dream 88-85. During a recent press conference, Mark Kellogg – Quinerly’s college coach for two seasons at WVU – took a minute to praise Quinerly’s strong start to her professional career.

“JJ Quinerly is off to a good start,” Kellogg said. “She’s getting some love there and starting to play well and starting in the WNBA, and we’re super proud of her.”
