West Virginia men’s basketball senior guard Javon Small continues to excel.
Small came to Morgantown after stints at East Carolina and Oklahoma State, joining a roster completely pieced together through the transfer portal by first-year head coach Darian DeVries. Since then, Small has been a critical piece to a surprisingly successful season for WVU.
Small recently earned Big 12 Player of the Week honors for the third time this season for his performances against Top 10 opponents Houston and Iowa State, and on Wednesday the standout guard earned some national honors to accompany his conference plaudits as he was named to the Sporting News Midseason All-America Team.
Small was named a Second-Team Midseason All-American by the organization, one of just fifteen players nationally named to the team. Small was one of ust two Big 12 players to earn the honor -- Iowa State senior guard Curtis Jones being the other.
Small leads the team in points per game (19.5), assists per game (5.05), steals per game (1.83), and minutes played per game (36.0), while coming in second on the team in rebounds per game (5.1). He also leads the Big 12 Conference in points per game and minutes per game, is fourth in the league in assists per game, and seventh in the league in steals.
