The West Virginia Mountaineers are furious with the NCAA for snubbing the men's basketball team from the NCAA Tournament, just like Florida State did after they were snubbed from the College Football Playoff. West Virginia leaders, both with the university and with the state, are taking legal action against the NCAA.
The Mountaineers 100% deserved to be in the NCAA Tournament, they had the resume, the quality wins, and the strength of schedule to get in, especially above teams like UNC, Texas, and Xavier. Of the 111 Bracketologists in the country, every single one of them had West Virginia in the tournament, but then suddenly, the selection committee has them as the first team out, it just doesn't make any sense.
The higher-ups at West Virginia are not having it and are planning to take legal action against the NCAA. IT didn't take long for West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey to release a statement talking about the legal action the state would take against the NCAA, simply the morning after the bracket was revealed.
Morrisey held a press conference held at 1:00 p.m. EST time to discuss a potential investigation and other legal action. Morrisey even came up with a clever new name for the NCAA, the "National Corrupt Athletic Association."
Even Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark chimed in on the snub of West Virginia. The Big 12 Commissioner wondered how the Mountaineers could be left out of the tournament with the resume they compiled throughout the season.
"I was surprised and disappointed to see West Virginia not receive a bid to the NCAA Tournament," Yormark said in a tweet by Pete Thamel.
Whether West Virginia actually has a solid claim in their lawsuit will come to fruition later, but there are certain some things coming out now after the bracket reveal that seem suspicious, such as UNC's AD Bubba Cunningham being the Chairperson of the Selection Committee. Also, the fact that Cunningham gets an extra month's salary if UNC makes the tournament, which they did.
Morrisey said he is still unsure of filing a full lawsuit and hope to get some "objective criteria" for tournament selection. More updates will be provided on this lawsuit and will be updated as more information comes out.
