This season for West Virginia baseball could be one of the best seasons in WVU history. Sporting a 37-6 record heading into the first weekend of May, the Mountaineers in a prime chance to be one the host site for the NCAA Regionals.
Two 10+ game streaks and a current 14-game winning streak in conference play have WVU in a great spot to compete for a Big 12 Baseball title. The conference championship is not the only thing that WVU is setting its sights on. West Virginia has the chance to host an NCAA Regional for the first time since 2019.
A huge possibility to host a regional is in the sights for the Mountaineers.
The top 16 seeds in the NCAA Baseball Tournament are awarded the privilege of hosting all regional games at home. If WVU keeps up its recent domination over Big 12 opponents, an opportunity to host regionals looks more likely for the Mountaineers. The recent 7-6 loss to in-state rival Marshall does not help their case. But even with the tough loss, WVU still has a chance to earn hosting honors, especially if they keep winning conference games.
Predictions for the NCAA Tournament are in favor of WVU right now. These projections are very fluid and can change in an instant, with conference games directly impacting the projections. As of Wednesday, D1Baseball has WVU hosting a regional as the 12th overall seed.

D1Baseball’s projection has WVU, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, and George Mason appearing in the Morgantown regional. On the other side of the regional awaits a familiar foe, North Carolina, as the 5th overall seed. The Mountaineers were one win away from an Omaha trip last season before North Carolina walked off game three of the Super Regional against WVU.
On the other side of the bracket, D1 Baseball’s projection has North Carolina, Oklahoma, Northeastern, and Central Connecticut State in the Chapel Hill regional. The winner will face the winner of the Morgantown regional in a best-of-three series in the Super Regional. The winner of the Super Regionals will earn a trip to Omaha for the College Baseball World Series.
WVU baseball fans would love to see the regionals being hosted in Morgantown following a very impressive 2025 season. The Mountaineers will have three more conference series, Texas Tech, Kansas State, and Kansas, respectively, to further solidify their position to host a regional host. In addition to the three conference series, WVU will play at Pitt in their final non-conference midweek game of the season this upcoming Thursday.
