Steve Sabins just led the West Virginia Mountaineers to their best season in program history for the second consecutive season, culminating in the program'sfirst-ever trip to the College World Series.
And the rising star head coach is not going to sit back and be satisfied with what he's accomplished so far, as he's continuing to recruit to build an even brighter future for the Mountaineers. And one of the commitments he's landed in the Class of 2027 who could help boost the Mountaineers in a major way in Cole Cheatham.
WVU baseball commit Cole Cheatham has tremendous summer
Cheatham is a highly-coveted right-handed pitcher in the 2027 recruiting class, and he spent the summer demonstrating why the Mountaineers, as well as many other programs, have been in hot pursuit of the young star.
So far,he has made appearancesthis year at the Perfect Game National Showcase, Perfect Game All-American Showcase, the 18U National Team Camp, and the High School All-American Game at the Field of Dreams. He clocked a 97 miles per hour fastball at the National Showcase, which was one of the highest marks among any all pitchers at the event.
As a high school junior, Cheatham was a first-team all-state selection in Indiana, posting a 5-0 ion the mound while striking out a stunning 103 batters in just 45.2 innings pitched – good for an average of over 20 strikeouts per nine innings. Still ahead of him this fall is the PBR All-American Game in September, after which he is hoping to arrange an official visit to Morgantown.
