It's always exciting to see former West Virginia football stars on the gridiron in the NFL – and even more so when they're teaming up together. Now, that opportunity will potentially be fulfilled for fans of the Mountaineers.
Former WVU starting quarterback Garrett Greene spent last season on the Tampa Bay practice roster after making an impact as an undrafted free agent in the offseason and preseason, switching to wide receiver as he embarked on his pro career. Now, he will be joined by a former West Virginia wideout in David Sills V, who recently signed a deal with the Bucs.

Garrett Greene, David Sills V to represent West Virginia Mountaineers with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Sills V signed with the Buccaneers earlier this week after parting ways with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason in the midst of a coaching change. Sills had his best NFL season yet in his seven years in the league this past year, playing in all 17 games for the Falcons and recording 18 receptions for 171 yards and two touchdowns – all career highs for the veteran wideout.
He joins Greene in the wide receiver room for the Bucs, who played in three preseason games for Tampa Bay as a rookie, racking up 117 all purpose yards between offense, kick returns, and punt returns – a stat line which included 65 receptions and one receiving touchdown.
Now, the two former Mountaineers – whose time at WVU did not overlap – will get to spend the offseason together fighting for spots on the final roster for the Buccaneers for the 2026 season.
