Former West Virginia Mountaineer star JJ Wetherholt recently earned a promotion to St. Louis Cardinals' Triple-A affiliate. Now, he'll have a chance to turn a few more heads during the upcoming MLB All-Star Week.
At the end of June, Wetherholt was named to the National League (NL) All-Star Futures roster -- Wetherholt will be representing the Cardinals as the number one-ranked prospect in their farm system.

Wetherholt was moved up to the Cardinals’ Triple-A team, the Memphis Redbirds, on Monday. The former WVU legend got the call-up after a spectacular season, posting a slash line of .300/.425/.466, which is good enough for a .892 OPS at the Double-A level.
The MLB All-Star Futures game will take place on July 12 at Truist Field in Atlanta, Georgia, during the MLB All-Star Week. The Future Game showcases the top rated baseball prospects around the minor leagues. The NL All-Star Future team roster includes 25 players from all three levels of the minor leagues (A, AA, and AAA), as well as representatives from over 10 different major league organizations.
Those who find themselves playing in Futures Game early in their careers have often become future stars in the MLB. The Futures Game has taken place every season since 1999. This year, some legendary former major league players will be coaching Wetherholt and his NL All-Stars Future Game teammates. Managing the NL is Hall of Famer Chipper Jones. The bench coach is Mark DeRosa, who played for the Braves for seven seasons. And last but not least, five-time all-star Andruw Jones is the hitting coach for the NL.
For fans wanting to see Wetherholt in action, they can catch the Futures Game on July 12, starting at 4 PM EST, which will be available to stream on MLB Network.
