While it's Week 0 for FBS football, and the West Virginia Mountaineers won't get their season underway for another week. But teams at the FCS and Division 2 level are getting their season kicked off this week, and the action has already been wild.
There was a flurry of Division 2 over FCS upsets during the opening slate of games on Thursday, and one of those came via a Division 2 school in West Virginia – Concord – scoring a victory over Davidson. And one former WVU football star polayed a critical role in that win.
Dom Collins leads Concord in receiving during upset over Davidson
In Concord's first-ever win over a Division 1 school, the Mountain Lions got a massive boost from former West Virginia wideout and in-state native Dom Collins. Collinsposted 143 all-purpose yardsand two touchdowns (one receiving, one rushing) in the 41-35 win.

Collins spent his freshmen season with West Virginia in 2024 under Neal Brown, and stuck around for Rich Rodriguez's first spring after he took over the program. He wasone of the leading receiversin all of Division 2 football early last season, but an injury brought his season to an unfortunate end just a few weeks into Concord's slate.
He entered transfer portal following the season andconfirmed he was open to a returnto West Virginia, but ended up withdrawing his name and returning to Concord for one more season. He will be an interesting name for WVU fans to keep their eyes on as the season continues.
