WVU football could attract a former Mountaineer and in-state native back to Morgantown after the speedster wide receiver had a breakout season at the Division 2 level.

Concord (WV) wide receiver Dom Collins announced on Saturday on social media that he would be entering the transfer portal at the season. He confirmed the news on Monday to RedditCFB reporter Joe Smith, and also let it be known that he's open to returning to the West Virginia Mountaineers if the opportunity presents itself.

Collins, a Princeton, W.Va product, spent his freshman season at WVU and redshirted before transferring to Concord after the spring season, as the Mountaineers saw an exodus of players ahead of what they anticipated being required roster cuts to remain compliant with the new NCAA House settlement, before it became evident that players could be grandfathered in.

Staying in-state and getting a bit closer to home, Collins found a perfect fit as he racked up 554 receiving yards and seven touchdowns through his first four games – he at one point led the nation at the Division 2 level in receiving yards per game before getting injured in his fourth game of the year. He attempted a return the next week and hauled in one reception for 25 yards before the injury forced an end to his season.

With six wideouts on the roster in their final year of eligibility (though Jaden Bray may return with a medical redshirt), and just four true freshmen entering at the position, the Mountaineers will need help at the position next year and will likely be on the market for at least 1-2 transfers in the room. Collins has already played a semester in the offense and understands head coach Rich Rodriguez's roster, and now has some significant game action under his belt that shows he can be a special talent. He would be a perfect target for the Mountaineers.
