Former West Virginia football player expresses interest in joining new staff

On Sunday, West Virginia football decided to part ways with Head Coach Neal Brown following a six-year stint with the program.
And while he isn't for the head coaching job -- yet -- one WVU football alum has already shown some interest in returning to Morgantown and joining the the staff of whoever does get hired.
Bruce Irvin, who played defense for the Mountaineers from 2010-2011, took to social media after the news about Brown broke. In a series of tweets, he expressed desire to inherit a defensive position coaching spot on the new staff, and then encouraged fans to direct Athletic Director Wren Baker's attention to his original post.
Irvin finished second in the FBS for total sacks in 2010 with WVU and earned all-conference and honorable mention All-American status. He went on to be a first-round NFL Draft selection and has spent the past 12 seasons in the NFL, where he won a Super Bowl, started 103 games and tallied 344 tackles, 56.5 sacks, 16 forced fumbles, 13 pass deflections, 3 interceptions,3 fumble recoveries, and 2 defensive touchdowns over his career. He has not announced his professional football retirement but is also currently not on a roster. Irvin does not have any prior coaching experience.
