If you're still pretty upset at Darian DeVries for leaving West Virginia after just one campaign, you better believe that you're not alone there. When Wren Baker brought him in prior to this season, the hope was that he'd be around for the long haul.
As we all know by now, that's not going to be the case, with him signing his contract with Indiana basketball and already being announced as the Hoosiers' new head coach. Since then, plenty of people have been calling DeVries out for his decision.
The list includes former West Virginia fan favorite Emmitt Matthews Jr. On Wednesday, the former Mountaineers' stud didn't hold back in calling out DeVries, claiming the coach couldn't wait to get out of town and join a new program:

Emmitt Matthews Jr. called out Darian DeVries for bailing on West Virginia
A Tacoma, Wash., native, Matthews spent the first three years of his college career in Morgantown before transferring to play for hometown Washington. He spent one season with the Huskies before deciding to transfer once again, this time returning to close out his college days with the Mountaineers.
In 2022-23, Matthews scored more than 10 points per game and he was a key contributor in helping West Virginia reach the NCAA Tournament. Unfortunately, WVU suffered a first-round loss to Maryland during that edition of March Madness.
For his career, Matthews scored 1,279 points while donning a West Virginia jersey, while adding 597 rebounds. His passion for this program is tough to match, which is why he was so disappointed to see DeVries really set the school back a bit by leaving out of nowhere.
Behind the scenes, though, DeVries confirmed that Indiana had first contacted him during the regular season, which is a major bummer. Not only did he jump ship to join the Hoosiers, but the Mountaineers were robbed of a trip to the NCAA Tourney too.
It's been a rough stretch for West Virginia basketball as a whole and Matthews, along with other hoops alums, aren't happy with how things played out with DeVries. That frustration will be present for a while.
