Darian DeVries has officially been introduced at Indiana as the next men's basketball head coach.
And by "officially introduced" we don't mean the announcement that came from the school last night -- we mean the Hoosiers hosted his introductory press conference on Wednesday morning in Bloomington.
The speed at which the deal came together -- from the first reports coming just last Friday to an announcement Tuesday night and the press conference this morning -- likely shows that interest between the two schools developed while DeVries was still attempting to coach WVU during the season.
"As they were going through their season, they were very respectful of making sure my focus continued to be on our [WVU] team, and I certainly appreciated that," DeVries said.
But while WVU fans may put this together as painting a picture that DeVries used the job in Morgantown to springboard into a more prestigious position, DeVries swore during his intro presser at Indiana that he did not lie when he told West Virginia media members last spring that he'd wanted to be in Morgantown for a long time.
"My intention was to continue down that path and build on our progress made during the first year," he said.
He also shared a quip during the press conference that West Virginia fans might find intriguing -- he discussed having to be "truthful" with players when attempting to build a program and a new roster. This will likely jump out at WVU fans considering that many feel like DeVries wasn't exactly truthful during the process of exploring other jobs and eventually leaving.
"Most importantly, be truthful. Talk to them about where you see them and don't make promises you can't keep," DeVries said.
