The West Virginia Mountaineersare set to kick off their seasonthis weekend, but that does not mean the work on the recruiting trail stops, as the Mountaineers continue to put together their 2027 recruiting class. But they have already landed several talents in the class, and one of those might be the team's future star quarterback.

The Mountaineers landed a commitment from Andre Phillip II during the spring, a Klein Oak (Texas) product who brings a unique athleticism to the quarterback position. And in a highlight from his most recent high school game, you could see the ability on display that could propel Phillip to a bright future with the Mountaineers.

During the game, hebusted a 64-yard touchdown runwhile running a quarterback option with a slot receiver in motion, a play that looked like it could come right out of Rodriguez's playbook. It was his second long touchdown rush of the night, according to the commentator in the video.

WVU football 2027 QB commit Andre Phillip II puts athleticism on display with huge touchdown run

You can easily see from the touchdown run that Phillip has a freakish level of speed and athleticism which he brings to the field. Despite playing in Texas, a state that constantly produces some of the top football athletes, he clearly outmatches all the defenders pursuing him with his exceptional speed.

You can see that in his track and field results as well. The three-star quarterback prospect, who 247Sportsranks as the 71st-best quarterbackin his class in their composite rankings, posted a mark of 10.63 seconds in the 100 meter dash and a 21.78 seconds in the 200 meter dash as a junior, and also logged a 20-foot, 3-inch long jump as a sophomore.
