The West Virginia Mountaineers are will be back on the gridiron this weekend after nine months off as Week 1 of the 2026 college football season fully gets underway.

The Mountaineerswill begin their second season of head coach Rich Rodriguez's second tenure with the school, with his return to his alma mater not going well last season: with the Mountaineers managing to earn just four wins on the year. Now, the staff and players returning from last season will look to avenge that difficult season by getting back into the win column to start this season.

The Mountaineers will play Coastal Carolina of the Sun Belt Conference this week, in a match-up that looks favorable for the Mountaineers. The Chanticleers are coming off a six-win season and are in their first season under a new head coach, and West Virginia isfavored by over three touchdownsentering the contest.
